A Guide to Jackson Hole: Teton Village vs. Downtown Jackson
I just returned from my second trip to Jackson Hole and it’s even more breathtaking than I remembered. Surrounded by the dramatic Teton Mountains, the pristine Snake River, and wildlife everywhere you turn, it’s a place that perfectly mixes outdoor adventure with upscale comfort. If you’re like me and love both, this spot is hard to beat.
Jackson Hole is made up of two distinct areas: Teton Village and the Town of Jackson and the question we get asked most frequently is: Should I stay in Teton Village or Downtown Jackson? After spending time in both, I can confidently say it depends on what kind of experience you’re looking for. Let me break it down.
Teton Village is 20 minutes from downtown (40 minutes from the airport) and is heaven for adventure lovers. It’s home to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, and most of the hotels here offer ski-in/ski-out access in winter and biking/hiking trails right out the door in summer. It’s also where you’ll find some of the most luxurious hotels and best food in the area. And with those epic Teton Mountain views, you’ll feel completely immersed in the wild beauty of this place.
If you’re after that classic Western vibe, the Town of Jackson is in the heart of all the action. The historic wooden boardwalks, bustling Town Square and famous elk antler arches all give it so much character. Plus, there are tons of boutique shops, art galleries, and amazing restaurants. It’s perfect if you want to be in the middle of everything and have dining and shopping right at your doorstep.
Whether you’re drawn to the mountains or the lively energy of downtown, Jackson Hole truly has something for everyone. Below, I’ve put together my guide to exploring both Teton Village and the Town of Jackson—where to stay, eat, and play.
