Maldives Resorts: Velaa Private Island

Vibe: Self-Described as a “beyond luxury”, The Owner is a billionaire from Czech Republic. It was his dream to have a resort of his own so years ago he bought an island. He wanted all his friends and guests to experience it. The resort is still family run, and the GM Michael, is his brother. The owner frequents often. He was there while I was visiting. The resort itself is in the shape of a turtle and you will see turtle features throughout the resort.

Getting there: 30min seaplane from Male direct to the resort.

How long has it been open: Celebrating it’s 5th year anniversary this December 20th 2019

What type of resort is it? Families welcome, B&B meaning your breakfast is included

Number of Rooms: 47 villas, houses and residences in addition to 4 four bedroom residences. All rooms have uninterrupted ocean views with majority of them having infinity pools. They have one really special romantic 1 bedroom overwater villa that can only be accessed by boat and is great for those celebrities that want absolute privacy.

How I feel about the Rooms: They only put the highest quality materials in the rooms and is perfectly designed with dark tones to calm you down from the bright outdoors. They all have huge bathrooms with circular bath tubs and murals of turtles throughout the room.

Highlights

The main restaurant was a highlight of the resort, with flying fish inside!
Money is no object here, and this is the owner’s passion project. There is no end to the effort made in keeping it fresh and up to date.
They have the largest activities center of all the resorts I visited. If you’re really active this is the spot for you.
The private romantic villa one bedroom is the best place for someone who wants complete privacy… You’ll need your own boat to get to it.. and it does come with a butler.
The “My Blend” by Clarins Spa has everything in it including snow! They have a room full of snow.. so go from the turquoise waters to the chilly cold!
